You are at the right place if you need a few simple ways to increase your milk supply.
For me, I try to breastfeed my children until the age of one. And almost every time between six and nine months, I will see a decrease in my milk supply. This tends to come when I either go on a quarterly review with my husband and pumping that whole weekend does not demand my milk to come in as much compared to actually nursing my baby, or, (my favorite!) I’m simply pregnant again.
Every time I start noticing a decrease in my milk supply, I pull out a few of my tricks on how to increase it. Below you will see four simple ways on how you can solve this problem for yourself as well. And, to be honest, I’ve applied only 3 out of 4 of these tricks. The reason I’m putting an extra one in here that I’ve never tried is because I hear so much talk on how this can really increase your milk supply! The other three tips here have always made a difference for me.

4 Ways to Increase Your Milk Supply
Fenugreek
Fenugreek is basically an herb that you can take via liquid or capsules. I personally prefer the pill form as in it’s the simplest for me. Increase or decrease the amount of pills you take as you feel is needed to increase your milk supply. Make sure you follow the directions with the maximum amount you can take each day. By taking this, you should find a significant difference in your milk supply within that day or the next.
Warning: if you take them right before you go to bed, you might wake up with an excess amount of milk!
Mother’s Milk
Mother’s Milk is the one that I’ve never tried. But it seems to be a tried and true solution from many of my friend’s experiences. Basically, it’s tea bags that you would obviously drink as a hot tea. It apparently does not have the greatest taste, which is why I personally don’t turn to this one first. I do see though the Mother’s Milk brand also offers chewables and granola bars (as shown below).
Drink LOTS of Water
With drinking lots of water- I try to implement this throughout the whole 12 months while nursing my child. The times I slack in this area, I do notice a decrease in my supply. In those moments, I’m reminded to get back on track with drinking that water on a more consistent basis.
If you’re slacking in milk supply and you don’t drink 80-100 ounces of water a day, give it a try and see if this strategy works for you!
Take Deep Breaths
After trying all the above and you’re sitting there trying to nurse your baby and your milk is still NOT coming in right away, try this tactic…
Sit there and take a DEEP BREATH.
For me, this has an almost 100% success rate (after implementing at least one of the above strategies). All I need to do is take those one or two deep breaths while nursing him, and there is comes! I have noticed a trend, that if I’m in a public place and a bit more uptight area because of all the people I’m around, my milk will keep from coming in, all because my body is not relaxed.
So there you have it. Three out of four of these tips have help me significantly while nursing my babies and needing an extra boost of milk.
