My husband and I just completed another Getaway last week. Every time we accomplish one of these, I will write a post telling you the details of how we did it and what we accomplished. My husband likes to call these our Quarterly Reviews. These are not your typical getaway vacations. We accomplish them every quarter (every three months) with NO CHILDREN (sometimes we have a baby along).
Here are the details:
Who:
Me, my husband, and our 5 month old baby
When:
Tues, June 5 – Saturday afternoon, June 10th – – WE ALMOST HAD A WHOLE WEEK!
Where:
We stayed at our house
Babysitters:
Our four older children stayed with family and friends from our old home town. We drove 2 1/2 hrs to drop them off. They stayed with his mom for two nights, with my mom a night and friends of ours for another night. Their uncle picked them up Friday night and drove back out to our place Saturday afternoon. Our 5 month old baby stayed with us the whole time for this Getaway.
What:
Most times we reevaluate our goals and review the last three months to see how and what we can do to improve our lives. Here is a complete list of all that we typically accomplish on a Getaways.
However, this Getaway was a bit different. My husband and I started a business nine months ago. We just purchased a software program to track all the income and spending for the business. So, this round, we decided to stay home and hammer out this software program. It was a pretty intense and stressful time. We had to first off, figure out how to use this program. Then secondly, enter all the numbers in since January (so we can have the full year in this program) and make sure all the numbers matched up!
The last day and a half I was able to get some blogging time in. Not as much as I hoped, but better than zero time!
A few people asked us if we enjoyed our Getaway, and if it was a relaxing and peaceful time. That made me chuckle, because it wasn’t exactly that. The beginning of the week was more on the stressful end. However, we did get a lot accomplished, mainly got everything in place to run the business more smoothly.

Our next one will be about three months from now, probably sometime this fall. We will hopefully then be diving back into our normal Getaway routine.

My husband and I have only had a few times apart from the boys since my eldest was born almost 20 years ago. And, all three of those times have been in the last 2 years!
I love hearing that you are doing this as time together as a couple is so important. Even if you are wrestling with finance software!

That’s great to hear, Laura, that you and your husband have been more intentional lately!

We haven’t had a getaway other than a rare night here or there when one where one of us working since we had became parents 9 years ago. I so wish we could. Unfortunately there is no one to watch them and no money to pay a babysitter! I so wish we could!

I’m so sorry you don’t have a sitter! That is obviously one of the most important things you would need in being able to do these.

Kudos for taking time to focus on getting your business in order – so it doesn’t overhang your worries and you can focus on your family in your down time!
