Because I am a doer – it is very easy for me to get wrapped up in accomplishing tasks all day rather than being wrapped up in my children’s lives.
The Lord is changing my perspective on what my every day should look like with my children. Now to start off, I’m not saying in this post that we shouldn’t work outside the home or pursue other hobbies/interests. It is healthy to have other pursuits other than our children. The question is…
“What does our time look like when we ARE with our children?”
My desire is to wake up every morning and remind myself, “I am called to be a mother to my children today
We as mothers, have a short period of time with our children being under our wings. Eventually, one by one, they will be released to fly on their own. So what kind of impact are we having with them now? What does life look like with our children being under our wings?
Do we make time for them?
Is work or our hobbies or social media more important than listening to them?
When our children come home after school, do we invest time with them in the evenings?
Do we hold our children?
Do we teach them the love of Jesus?
Do we sit and play with our children?
Do we invest our time into the things they enjoy and desire to do?
Can we set aside our own agenda and allow our children’s interruptions be an opportunity to love on them?
So what does it look like for you? You possibly are the ONLY mother in their life. Will they be thankful for all the time you invested into their life while being under your wings? Will they have memories of how intentional you were with them? Or will they have more memories of you being away from the home? Or being in front of your phone or TV all day? Or demanding them to do this and that all day long around the house?
You and I are called to be a mother to our children EVERY DAY that they are under our wings. (And even once they are released, we are still called to be that mother.)
Help me, God, help us, to fulfill motherhood to our greatest potential. Help us to be the mother that you are calling us to be!
